This Subcommittee is focused on all blood flow related issues in thrombosis and hemostasis: from clinical blood flow assays of hemostasis to basic research models. We recognize the importance of shear stresses on hematopoietic cell and endothelial function and transport phenomena in coagulation, anticoagulation and fibrinolysis and how these phenomena combine with biochemical mechanisms in nonlinear and complex ways to control clotting, platelet activation, and vascular biology. The expertise of hematologists, biomedical researchers, physical scientists and engineers is utilized.

Mandate

  • To review the state-of-the-art in flow-related issues for clinical and research practitioners.
  • To evaluate existing blood flow assays and make recommendations for improvement.
  • To establish standardized research protocols and clinical flow-based assays of haemostasis.
  • To identify and foster emerging areas of research related to biorheology.
  • To communicate the findings of the subcommittee in a clear and timely manner through journal publications and conference presentations.

If you are a member of the Society and would like to know how to participate in the work of this group, please join the group to receive updates on activity or submit an Expression of Interest Form to the Chairman or any of the Co-Chairmen. We would be pleased to learn of your interest.
