SSC Subcommittee on Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation

This Subcommittee is committed to enhancing awareness and understanding of clinical, pathophysiological features and laboratory diagnosis of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), which represents the final phase of complex hemostatic disruptions that can occur in various clinical settings. 

Mandate

• Promoting research into the pathophysiology of coagulation, fibrinolysis, and endothelial disturbances associated with DIC.
• Continuing and expanding collaboration among hematologists, surgeons, experimental researchers, laboratory medicine specialists, cardiologists, internists, intensivists, anesthesiologists, oncologists, obstetricians, and all scientists and clinicians interested in improving the knowledge and management of DIC.
• Improving and standardizing the diagnosis and treatment of DIC to enhance clinical management and patient outcomes across diverse clinical settings.
• Utilizing ISTH support and resources to deliver educational programs, create guidance documents and international guidelines, and initiate international research collaborations and registries that will advance the field of DIC.
• Actively engaging in policy development and advocacy to ensure DIC is recognized as a critical health condition that receives appropriate resources and attention.
